"Overcoming the B-Complex" part 1

"If anyone desires to come after Me let him deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow me."

Luke 9:23

Dear Beloved:

I am deeply concerned about how much the plan B-complex is rooted in the hearts of God's people.  The relevance of living for the Lord and dependent upon Him seems to be very rare in the body of Christ today.  Jesus understood this problem in His days on the earth and He addressed it in Matt. 9:37.  Jesus said, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few."  The problem that Jesus saw was an abundant harvest of souls waiting to be reached, but there was a shortage of laborers.  Today the need to reach lost souls is greater than ever because we live in the last days.  The laborers are few according to Jesus; there was a shortage of believers to reach lost souls.  Today this statement does not mean the same thing as in Jesus day.  Today the statement means there is a shortage of believers taking their place and living to reach souls. We are not living to do God's will as we should.

In Matt. 20:16, Jesus made another statement in regards to laborers, Jesus said, "So the last will be first and the first last.  For many are called, but few are chosen."  If the question were asked are we called of God, the response would be overwhelmingly yes I am.  On the other hand we have not chosen to do the will of God at whatever cost.  The Lord has called us, but He first loved us. Have we truly chosen Him? What does it mean to choose the Lord? Jesus explains it in Matt. 7:21, "Not everyone who says to Me Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father."  Believers with the plan B-complex will say the right words, sing the right songs, quote the right scriptures, and praise the Lord at the right time.  They look good on the outside; they wear the right clothing and appear to be spiritually in harmony with the Lord.  Yet, in private they have no godly focus.  Jesus continues in saying, "Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!" (Matt.7:22-23).  The amplified says, you who act wickedly (disregarding My commands).  The plan B-complex will always disregard and disrespect the Lord's commands.  Actually, a plan B-complex is self-based with a consuming focus on self at the root of everything.  When selfishness is the root of ones motivation and action it always sets its own rules and will not be governed by another. Plan B-complex people do not make good marriage partners, friends, co-workers, brothers or sisters, team players or spiritual partners.  The B-complex mind set will always be more concerned about its own way and its own rights in spite of anything or anyone else.

How do we overcome and break free from the clutches and strongholds of the B-complex? Jesus gives us the answer in Luke 9:23, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.  For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it."  Jesus provides four very simple principles than can change anyone's life without fail.

  1. Desire to come after Jesus with your whole spirit, soul and body. (Passion & love for Him).
  2. Come with a heart and mind surrender and self-denial attitude.
  3. Take up your cross daily.  These are the issues, pains, sufferings and weaknesses of your life.
  4. Follow Me. Following the Lord must be a matter of the heart and mind. This must be a daily goal, aim, pursuit and vision of your life.

These four principles are principles of truth that will work for anyone that fully commits and submits to the Lord in these areas of daily living.  This is where the fruit of living as a Plan A believer will pay off and impact lives of many souls.
